The Press under pressure

Image
Only recently have I heard the plans to make “a state-backed press regulator” this news rather alarmed me as it should. The reasons for this incessant concern is that bar some wartime exemptions the press has been free of the governmental influence since the 19 th century. Before I go on a stupidly histrionic rant let’s give some background. As previously mentioned the press has largely been free of government regulation since the 19 th century however the increasing public concern leads to the creation of press self-regulation in the form royal commissions and most recently the Press complaints commission (PCC).  Well, the Leveson inquiry looked at self-regulation, the PCC and the ethics and practices of the press, after the News of the Worlds phone hacking scandal. Review of Sherlock Finale (spoiler warning)

Tonight, as I reel from the amazingly convoluted yet masterfully crafted season (and possibly series) finale of the acclaimed TV show Sherlock, I sit and wonder was it truly a great season finale for the possibly the best incarnations or interpretations of Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. This show started off with a bang introducing a modernised Sherlock Holmes, Benedict Cumberbatch showing his full range of skills as the high functioning sociopath, solving crimes with a crippled John Watson, outstandingly played by Martin Freeman. After a short story and a blown-up flat later we find that Sherlock’s sister, a person

Review of Assassin's Creed

While the world continued to swoon over the masterpiece that was Rogue One I was sitting waiting for my time to go see one of my most anticipated films in years Assassin's Creed. As a fan of the game series that spawned this film I was really looking forward to this movie and I was not disappointed. As a massive departure from previous video game adaptations, some of which should be banned for being so bad, this film was a pleasant surprise. This film boasts a higher budget, higher class cast and it really shows as a movie it is constantly entertaining and fun to watch. With well-crafted fight scenes and good explanations for things like the bleeding effect and a much more believable animus than even the games offered that explained how he learns the skills of the assassins. The acting from Fassbender and Cotillard and Irons is as always great. The fight scenes are beautifully crafted with the skills of the assassins perfectly portrayed. These things while grea
