What is Happening

When I started this Blog (a few weeks ago) I told myself that I would stay away from ideological and political issues as they are topics that two people rarely have the same opinion on. However, over the past weeks I have developed so many thoughts and opinions and have to express them.

What is happening in the world? everything that has happened over the last few weeks is almost for one to process. Horrific terrorist attacks worldwide, sadly there are too many to name, the murder of Jo Cox, the Shootings in the US and the attempted coup in Turkey.

I am left to wonder will this ever change, see I always thought I had a rough plan for my life, go university get my BSc and MPhil and get a job in Forensic toxicology or Forensic Chemistry research probably meet someone, and eventually start a family but I find this plan challenged especially the start a family part.

How could I justify bringing a child into this world after everything that has happened over the last few weeks and having little to no faith that these despicable and inhuman events will ever stop? my lack of faith was compounded by the sheer ridiculousness of the political and civil issues of recent weeks.

The US is facing the worst civil rights issues in half a century and is approaching a Presidential race between two candidates, one Hilary Clinton who is untrusted by the population and one Donald trump who is so racist and bigoted that his own supporters can’t tell the difference between his quotes and ones from Adolf Hitler, and he is so ignorant of how politics works that he is more likely to instigate more international events and issues than solve the ones that already exist in the US.

British Politics is no better with the recent Brexit vote, a vote partly made because the UK populous is tired of being told what to do by unelected officials. Well as a result of Brexit we have a government we didn’t elect we have a New Prime Minister and a new agenda with a nearly completely fresh Cabinet nearly the one minister which is nearly unanimously hated by the British people managed to keep his job as health secretary, and we still no idea what Brexit actually means.

The British Parliamentary Opposition is none existent at the moment. With the Labour leader, loved by most of Labours supporters, is being challenged by 80% of the Party’s MPs, whom along with the Labour National executive committee (the party rule makers) have apparently decided to marginalise and exclude thousands of Its members by increasing the membership cost and prohibited Local meetings of labour members and have banned members charitably helping poorer supporters gain a voting membership. In short, the PLP and the NEC have hindered in some cases banned democracy and socialism in a democratic socialist party.

I could go on to mention the new wave of Euroscepticism in the wake of Brexit, which causes issues for several EU governments the French and German to name a prominent couple. So it was safe to say I was lost with countless global issues and nothing but a bleak future on the horizon.

But then I remembered two of my favourite quotes:
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that” - Martin Luther King, Jr.
“No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.”-Aesop

These two quotes resonated with me in such dark challenging times in times when people kill children to spread a corrupted ideology, in a time where people are still treated differently for being who they are, in a time where many democratic parliamentary parties have forgotten that they serve the people and not themselves and governments are ignorant to the needs of both people who elected them and those who didn’t, we need to stand together we need to respect each other and learn to love each other regardless of religion, race politics as the late MP Jo Cox’s husband said “ hate has no creed, race or religion, it is poisonous.”

I guess what I’m saying is LIVE LOVE AND LEARN. i know this blog is small but please spread this blog for message it contains as it is one I hope you agree needs spreading. I will leave you with this

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”- Mahatma Gandhi
