General Election 2017, My take

Coming up to polling day for 2017’s impromptu yet critical General election I thought I would voice my opinions. For the past 7 years this nation and the majority in it have faced increasing struggles in our daily lives with cuts in nearly every public sector an increasing cost of living and an apparent lack of care for those systems and institutions that not make this country great but secure that It remains so for the future.

Theresa May and her party have asked us to “trust their record” and I truly find that both laughable and insulting, The Governments 7 year record is a testimony to them not caring for the poor, disabled, the NHS, the local councils and the education system.

The NHS is in utter chaos, there is a massive under staffing and under funding crisis there are less beds there are more patients (due to the cuts on councils preventing the funding of social care) and fewer staff, meaning they now have to work more hours on less pay. Theresa May says that they have placed more and more money into the NHS, yet the NHS’s funding is at its lowest per capita since its inception in 1948.

The education system is massively underfunded many schools are in desperate need of extra resources, they are being forced to place children in supersized classes that are less effective. Councils are also massively in need of funds, Cornwall council is now having to close public toilets its so cash strapped.

The police and defence forces across the nation are being destroyed, there are 20,000 less police and 5000 less solders in the UK police stations have closed and response times have got poorer. Theresa May was warned early into her stint as home secretary 2010-2016 that these drastic cuts could lead to the end of community policing which would cause a strain to protect the public and a failure in intelligence gathering.

The 2017 Conservative manifesto and campaign is not any more promising, there is vague and unclarified polices like social care and the plan for Brexit, a repetition of the phrase strong and stable, apparently originating from mein kampf, and repeating messages over the prominence of Brexit, without stating what it means. The conservatives have only brushed over their plans they have only told us what they plan to not do rather than what they will they have said they won’t raise VAT but have not made promises for national insurance or council tax. Not to mention the blatant lies they seem to publicise.

Theresa May has said Labour want uncontrolled migration despite the Labour manifesto stating they want controlled migration. She has stated that mental health was a priority yet has cut its funding and plans to cut it even further. Claims she wants a Britain that works for everyone yet has done nothing to prevent the thousands that a reportedly died after being wrongly declared able to work.

Not to mention the hypocrisy, she claims she and her team is strong and stable and that she should be negotiating Brexit, despite that she is apparently afraid to debate the other party leaders, she has made 2 U-turns on social care and on national insurance at the first sign of pressure. If this is her definition of strong and stable then I can’t imagine the definition for weak and wobbly which is what she appears to be.

The conservatives have tried to colour Jeremy Corbyn as a mad man that will bankrupt the country but his manifesto is fully costed, unlike the conservative manifesto, and not to mention the national debt they have managed to raise by 550 billion.

This is why is support the labour party under Jeremy Corbyn, the country he and his party wants to build is the one is have dreamt of one where your ability to and the cost to go to university is the same regardless of the post code you are born in, a country that is fair in its taxation of the peoples. A country that works for the majority of people.

Jeremy Corbyn wants to raise corporation tax which is perfectly fine and reasonable, people say that this will cause the companies to leave but they have nowhere to go since this increased level will still be lower than most industrialised countries within and outside Europe. He wants to allow children to have free school meals not only enhancing their education and their health but lowers areas for bullying to take place as well.

He wants to allow people to attend university for free, allowing people to reach their full potential, also addressing the biggest issue I have with the student loan system. Everyone is charged the same fair right we’ve all made all the same decision that going to university was the best choice and the job will be worth the debt but this isn’t true not only is there 4x the graduates for the jobs there is also the fact that many careers will never pay enough to get rid of that debt despite needing 1 or 2 degrees to be eligible for the job.

The primary criticism of Jeremy Corbyn is that he isn’t as good leader as Theresa May, I am truly lost to how people believe this. I have already stated that Theresa May has shown herself u-turning at the first sign of pressure and unable to keep her MP’s in line with party policy. Where Jeremy overwhelmingly won a leadership election, stood his ground against a rebellious PLP and then won a second leadership election with a greater majority, when pressed about his standing nuclear weapons he again stood his ground instead of playing with words and outright said he is against them which everyone with a brain should be.

The second criticism I’ve seen is that he would be worse at negotiations than Theresa May yet, many of the leaders in Europe and outside are either more central of left and have more in common with Jeremy Corbyn than Theresa may, more than that Corbyn has a much more open stance when it comes to negotiations he won’t threaten Europe with give us what we want or we’ll cut all ties, unlike Theresa May who has said no deal is better than a bad deal, with disregard for the businesses and millions of jobs that rely on the single market and tariff free trade.

For me the choice is simple either the country elects a party that has proven themselves to be lying, hypocritical over spending and heavy borrowers that don’t care for the poor, disabled, the NHS, the education system, the elderly or those who run businesses. Or a party who wants the UK to be a peaceful equal nation in for the public services to be properly funded and us to have an amicable  break with Europe and a productive relationship with Europe. So on June the 8th I am going to support labour by voting for the Lib Dems.

Yes I am voting for the lib Dems because labour have no hope of winning in my constituency so I have to do the next best thing and keep the Tories out by voting liberal Democrat, and this what I urge you to do on June 8th and Vote tactically there is a wonderful website on how to keep the Tories out of specific constituencies (http://www.electionpolling.co.uk/tactical-voting/conservative).

Now I understand that not everyone wants the Tories out and I can respect that but I cannot even begin to comprehend how anyone who knows someone who’s young, old, mentally disabled, incapacitated or has ever used the NHS and the European single market or relied on the police force or the welfare state can think that a tory government is a good idea, I’m sorry I can’t I don’t judge you but I really don’t agree with you and saying that as someone who has many, many friends that are tory voters politics does not determine your character
