Wonder Woman Review


This review is a short non-spoilers review

I was incredibly hyped for this film, after the divisive Batman V Superman and the fun yet rushed suicide squad a lot was riding on this film the fate of the DCEU was pretty much riding on the quality of this film and my god it did not disappoint
.
This film firstly did not cater to a specific gender like some thought there was no shoving of overly feminist tones they were tastefully handled and period appropriate, remember this was set in a time before women had the vote. likewise this film did not make wonder woman a sexual icon, paying dues to the obvious that she is very attractive yet not focusing on it they focused on her power and personality, making her a symbol of strength and morality. 

Criticisms of the DCEU films to date were based around the plot, character motivations, Character representation and how close to the source material they are. Let’s start with the story, unlike BVS there is a simple and concise story that everyone can follow there is a bad guy and the good guys its that simple there are twists but they are so simple to follow, and unlike suicide squad the villain had depth and purpose and wasn't so over powered that the hero shouldn't win. 

Character Motivations were again simple it is the amazons purpose to protect the world, I can’t say more without spoiling something. Finally, the character representation this is where this film shines Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman is a perfect representation of the character from her power to her personality and costume. It is like DC brought wonder woman to life.

All in all this film is in my opinion as close to perfect as any movie could be its true to the source material, it is coherent and easy to follow it is fun and there isn’t a boring or dull scene in the movie every scene either has awe inspiring action, well executed comedy or emotion inducing romance or mixes of all three. It is a truly a leap up for the DCEU not only that but wonder woman is now for me  the bench mark for new superhero movies.

It is very clear that Warner Bros have listened and learned from the previous two films and made changes accordingly. 

At least it is great at most its perfect a 10/10 from me.

Gender Equality: It goes both ways

The question that gets asked too often are you a feminist? Er no I am not at least not currently Gender inequality the ever divisive and toxic area that must be encroached on, we have all by know heard the facts of inequality towards women. The lower pay, less likely to be hired into managerial positions or public office and the fact their careers are significantly hindered by having children. Not to mention the more social aspects like the sexualisation of women and the treatment of them in the criminal justice systems of the world. All these issues and the ones I haven’t mentioned are terrible and must be stopped with efforts from both genders. And this for me is where the issues for gender equality arise, you often see articles in the paper or speeches by influential peoples stating that it’s an issue for both genders yet make no attempt to real them in and make no mention of the inequalities toward men. Star trek Discovery: Pre-release opinion.

The first thing you should know is that I love star trek it is still my favourite franchise even after all these years and when I heard that a new show was in development I was ecstatic. Finally, I could enjoy a Trek TV show that had the great graphics of the JJverse movies that set was set in the prime timeline of the old TV shows instead of the Kelvin Timeline. First came the concept animation and at first I was a bit perplexed It looked like a cross between a federation and Klingon design and I first thought it could look like that since maybe if it was set in the late 24 th or early 25 th century it could be a collaboration between the two allied powers. But then I heard that it was confirmed that it was a prequel set 10 years before the original series (2255 in timeline) which disappointed me since one it was a prequel that killed the franchise last time and two since it really through the design into suspicion, like how can the ship look like it was designed
