General Election 2017, My take

Image
Coming up to polling day for 2017’s impromptu yet critical General election I thought I would voice my opinions. For the past 7 years this nation and the majority in it have faced increasing struggles in our daily lives with cuts in nearly every public sector an increasing cost of living and an apparent lack of care for those systems and institutions that not make this country great but secure that It remains so for the future. Theresa May and her party have asked us to “trust their record” and I truly find that both laughable and insulting, The Governments 7 year record is a testimony to them not caring for the poor, disabled, the NHS, the local councils and the education system. The NHS is in utter chaos, there is a massive under staffing and under funding crisis there are less beds there are more patients (due to the cuts on councils preventing the funding of social care) and fewer staff, meaning they now have to work more hours on less pay. Theresa May says that t...

Wonder Woman Review

Image
This review is a short non-spoilers review I was incredibly hyped for this film, after the divisive Batman V Superman and the fun yet rushed suicide squad a lot was riding on this film the fate of the DCEU was pretty much riding on the quality of this film and my god it did not disappoint . This film firstly did not cater to a specific gender like some thought there was no shoving of overly feminist tones they were tastefully handled and period appropriate, remember this was set in a time before women had the vote. likewise this film did not make wonder woman a sexual icon, paying dues to the obvious that she is very attractive yet not focusing on it  they focused on her power and personality, making her a symbol of strength and morality.  Criticisms of the DCEU films to date were based around the plot, character motivations, Character representation and how close to the source material they are. Let’s start with the story, unlike BVS there is a simple and con...

General Election 2017 wait another one?

Image
Earlier this week Theresa May called for a general election to be run, stating that divisions in Westminster over Brexit are delaying progress in a time of unity for the nation. However, there is as usual much much more to this story and I will explain the reasons why and my opinions on the matter. Why call an election now? Well, there are several reasons for a general election to be called one being Brexit, the negotiations for Brexit are scheduled or rather estimated to take up to 3 years which would mean the climax of any deals or proposals would be happening as the election in 2020 was nearing. this would place the government at a disadvantage since some nations may try and use that as leverage against the UK to get a better deal. Another reason is that Theresa May has no mandate she is unelected (as PM) , this presents the issue that many don't perceive her as having authority to govern but also means that she is bound by the manifesto and promises of David C...

Our Weird World: The snowballing darkness

Image
Before I start I would like to say that this is to be a long post and would ask to stick it out as there is a meaning to this post. in recent weeks this world, our world has become a much weirder place. there is so much darkness that is shown to us each day yet often we fail to see it. I know some may not believe me so I will explain. There is so much darkness so much pain and insanity that we are sadly becoming used to it this was proven to me when I heard the news that concentration/torture camps for Gay men have been set up in Chechnya and my reaction was nothing more than "not another tragedy" .  every day there is a new tragedy and we are shown them in dribs and drabs i will now list some, some of the things wrong today in our world. Only today has there been a bomb attack on a convoy of refugees fleeing Syria, before that in the past weeks there has been a chemical weapon attack in Syria by the Syrian government  that killed over 90 civilians ...

Review of beauty and the beast, did Disney strike the billion dollar Belle?

Image
As I entered the cinema for this rather historic moment in cinema history I was a little apprehensive, this was the first live-action Disney musical, more importantly, it was the remake of one of my childhood movies, it's like if kids of today in 10-15 years go to a live action remake of frozen or tangled. I was scared, worried, and excited. I was not prepared for what happened next. Any fears I had were laid to rest with the opening performance a wonderful remake/cover of Little Town. This song not only displayed the talents of all the wonderful performers including Emma Watson, a pleasant surprise in the role of Belle, but also yielded the same feel and awe as a broadway musical. Little Town provided a masterful opening to all the characters to those who have never seen the original and as proof that this film was done beautifully to the fans of the original. I have said Emma Watson was a surprise in the role and it was to my knowledge she has never engaged ...

Review of Logan

Image
“WOW, what a Perfect movie” is what I thought to myself as I wiped the tears from my eyes walking out of the cinema at 2 am. I have honestly never seen such an incredible fusion of action, drama, sci-fi madness and pure emotion in a movie. In my opinion, Logan is the greatest superhero movie ever and one of the greatest movies in years. This film has everything going for it, let’s start with acting, Hugh Jackman’s performance is fantastic he manages to capture the pain of the ageing Logan while managing to portray the unbridled rage of the wolverine who is caring for the elderly professor Charles Xavier. Sir Patrick Stewart’s performance is yet again outstanding, he is fully able to show the struggle of an old man who is now not only lost the use of his legs but is also now losing control of his whole body. Between the two you full feel the pain of two of the last living mutants. Dafne Keen’s portrayal of Laura aka X-23 is truly flawless for such a young actress she...

I am left wing but what does that mean?

Image
Recently I was asked quite normally where on the political spectrum I considered myself to sit and I said Left wing like I had dozens of times before, except this time the persons look soured and it looked as though they lost respect for me since I identified as left wing. I was shocked and confused why did this person think this and why was it deemed a less respectful political ideology. I decided to reevaluate my position, was I still left wing? Has my position changed? Has the positions of the left changed? What does it mean to be left wing in 2017? Why do I consider myself to be left wing? Well traditionally the left wing is more supportive of the welfare state, equitable actions by the state to make everyone equal, basically more socialist actions and ideals. Myself I believe in a nation where we have A fully funded NHS, where education is a right, not a privilege where the economy is built on public spending, not public suffering. So why am I uncertain? Well, I a...
